Lonelyville
Lonelyville is a small beach community located in the western end of Fire Island. It has about 60 houses and is located between Dunewood and Atlantique. The closest ferry service is from Dunewood. Some Lonelyville residents use the ferry from Atlantique as well. There are no stores or facilities but it is a fairly easy walk or bike ride to Fair Harbor which serves as a town center for the community. The actor Mel Brooks had a house in Lonelyville for many years. Brooks purportedly wrote many of his movies and comedy sketches there, including the 2000 Year Old Man.
Lonelyville is loosely split into Old (West) Lonelyville and New (East) Lonelyville. Old Lonelyville consists of the wood walks and New Lonelyville consists of the concrete walks. Old Lonelyville is one of the oldest communities on Fire Island. There was once a 400 foot oceanfront pier and a railroad from the pier to the bay for fisherman. Both the pier and railroad are now gone.
