The Pine Walk Fair is this Saturday July 4th in Fair Harbor. All kinds of goods will be on sale, from arts and crafts to clothing and art merchandise. Come one, come all, its a great event with a lot of unique Fire Island related merchandise. Last year there were dozens of merchants and hundreds of visitors from all over Fire Island. I ventured over to Cherry Grove last night for dinner at the Ice Palace. They have a special $5 chinese buffet every wednesday, as well as half-priced wine. The food was pretty good, the manager said they got their stuff from a chinese place in Sayville. I recommend it to anyone who is floating around at the beach during the weekdays.
Fire Island and the whole East Coast is in store for a soaking rainstorm for friday night. Luckily, it’s supposed to clear up on saturday and sunday for sunshine the rest of the weekend.
Tonight (Thursday):Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 55. Southeast wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Friday: Rain, mainly after noon. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 58. Breezy, with a east wind between 15 and 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between one and two inches possible.
Friday Night: Rain, mainly before 2am. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 55. North wind between 16 and 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 70. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph becoming south.

The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) is running a summer beach package to Kismet and the Fire Island Lighthouse from May 24 to September 1. They have a deal with David Bros. Taxi so a round trip including taxi to the ferry is $34 from Manhattan. This fare also includes general admission to the Fire Island Lighthouse. More info can be found here:
