The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) is running a summer beach package to Kismet and the Fire Island Lighthouse from May 24 to September 1. They have a deal with David Bros. Taxi so a round trip including taxi to the ferry is $34 from Manhattan. This fare also includes general admission to the Fire Island Lighthouse. More info can be found here:
This is a great tool for seeing how much water taxis cost from town to town on Fire Island. More info including rates for cross bay water taxis can be found by calling (631) 665-8885.
We’ve heard that the “Le Dock Burger” at Le Dock in Fair Harbor, Fire Island is out of this world. Le Dock has revamped their menu and we are excited to try out their new offerings. The Le Dock Burger consists of a beef patty, with chipotle mayo, as well as prosciutto. It sounds great. We will have reviews once we try it! We’ve also heard that there are other new dishes that are to be had, so we will give you the full report once we try the new menu items out.
For all of you that don’t know, the Kismet Out was bought by a group of investors last year. They did a top down renovation, and it looks impressive. For all of you that remember the old Out, the bar has been moved from the right hand side to the left hand side and the outdoor space has been revamped. There will also be a sushi bar, rumored to be catered by Citarella. Here is a rendering of the new restaurant, more photos of the interior coming soon…
As you may already know, the restoration of the beach on Fire Island is official. Local residents toured the restoration project in April. Here’s an excerpt of the press release:
“Fire Islanders agreed to a significant tax hike to pay for adding sand to adjacent public beaches for the third time since the storms of the early 1990s. The overall project, now nearing completion, will cost $23-$25 million, including the cost of environmental monitoring. It will result in adding 1.8 million cubic yards of sand in front of the participating communities.”
Looks like an exciting project which will hopefully protect Fire Island from future storms.
